Pop Culture Icons Memorable Advertising Strategies

Throughout history a vast number of people whether real or fictional have been embedded into our culture, and these people have had some sort of impact or significant meaning which made them icons above the rest. Some people were remembered for inspirational reasons, like Martin Luther King or Rosa Parks. Other figures in our popular culture, like Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Michael Jackson, will forever stick out based on their natural charisma and ability to entertain. Some people will be remembered for political reasons and others for their ingenuity, unfortunately some significant characters will be remembered for diseases, addiction and worst of all death. Most people in our popular culture did not seek to become icons or significant people in history; however our culture developed an affinity for them, their message, inventions or ideas. In some cases significant people in our popular culture were created, such as Uncle Sam or Rosie the Riveter, while others were created for amusement like Mickey and Minnie Mouse. There were other icons, however, which were created in a sort of diabolical genius fashion, like The Marlboro Man and Joe Camel, characters who were created as a way to deter from the seriousness of smoking. Major tobacco companies, including Phillip Morris and R.J Reynolds, created a way to ease the smokers mind and, perhaps worst of all, to ease the minds of smokers children while creating icons of world proportion.
